How to Wash Your Hair without Shampoo

Hair is an integral part of our personality and therefore everybody care for their hair. Shampooing is important for maintaining the health of hair as it removes the dirt and bacterial build up. But frequent use of shampoo can negatively affect your hair as it can remove the natural oil known as sebum from the scalp and its removal means more production of sebum which can cause tangling and stickiness in hair. Besides that many shampoos are chemical based which can cause skin allergy, rashes, hair fall and fading of color. The best way to avoid such situation is avoiding shampoo but is it possible to have clean and healthy hair without using shampoo? The answer is yes, there is not just one but several ways of cleaning hair without shampoo.

Egg yolk and baking soda

This formulation is suitable for every hair type and you require 1 egg yolk and 1 teaspoon baking soda to prepare this. Beat an egg yolk with the fork in a bowl and add baking soda into it. Mix it well and massage this mixture in your hair and scalp thoroughly. Cover you head with a shower cap or plastic cover and leave it for 2 hours. Rinse it with lukewarm water and you will get soft, shiny hair without any harmful effects.

Egg yolk and castor oil

This recipe is best for dry hair type as castor oil will nourish and moisturize your hair. You need 1 egg yolk and 2 – 5 tablespoons of castor oil. Beat the egg yolk in a bowl with a fork and then mix it with castor oil. Wet your hair before applying this mixture. Massage this mixture on your hair and scalp thoroughly and then rinse it with lukewarm water.

Egg yolk, lemon and olive oil

Everybody is familiar with the benefits of lemon and olive oil in context of hair health. Use these simple ingredients to make your regular shampoo if you have dry hair. Just take an egg yolk, 10 drops of olive oil, and 10 drops of lemon juice and 5 drops of glycerin and mix them in a bowl. Apply this mixture on your hair and scalp evenly just like a shampoo and rinse it with lukewarm water.

Yogurt

It is the richest source of protein and therefore it can nourish your dry scalp and hair with its regular use. You just need 150 gram yogurt and whip it in a bowl until there are no lumps left. Spread it gently on your scalp and hair length while massaging it with your fingers. Cover your hair for half an hour with a shower cap or plastic cover and then rinse it with lukewarm water.

Teaming up the benefits of yogurt with other magic hair care ingredient is superb way to pamper your hair. For this, you need 200 gram natural yogurt and 1 tablespoon baking soda. Whip the yogurt and mix the baking soda to it. Use this mixture to treat your scalp and hair. Leave it for 15 minutes and then rinse it with lukewarm water.

Yogurt and egg yolk

This is the popular age old method and a proven one for oily hair. You will require 200 gram yogurt and 1 egg yolk. Beat the egg yolk in a bowl and then add yogurt into it. Whip this mixture for an even paste like consistency. Apply this on your entire hair length and scalp evenly while massaging gently. Let it stay for 15 minutes and rinse it with lukewarm water.

Soapwort

This herb has a fat or grease dissolving ability and therefore it is perfect solution for oily hair type. You need to put 200 grams of this herb into 2 liters of boiling water. Let it simmer for half an hour and then strain out the extract. Wash your hair with this resulting infusion and then rinse it with lukewarm water.

Kaolin

It is also known as china clay and helps in regulation of oil secretion in the body therefore it is good for dry and oil hair types. To use this for washing your hair, you have to mix 3 – 4 tablespoons of kaolin with warm water until you get a paste like consistency without any lumps. Wet your hair and apply this paste on your scalp and hair. Rinse it with lukewarm water.

Kaolin and vinegar

Vinegar complements the benefits of kaolin very effectively. You need 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 3 – 4 tablespoons of china clay (kaolin) in a bowl and mix it properly. Apply this on your hair and scalp evenly. Cover it with a shower cap and leave it for an hour. Rinse it well with lukewarm water.

Reetha, Amla, Shikakai and licorice

These ingredients have been used since ancient times and still used in various natural shampoos. If you want to make homemade shampoo then just take 5 – 7 reetha (soap nut berries), ½ teaspoon Amla (whole or powdered), 1 tablespoon of Shikakai powder, 1 tablespoon of licorice root and 2 – 3 cups of water. Put all the ingredients into water and leave for overnight. Heat this mixture in a saucepan in morning and let it simmer for 15 – 45 minutes. The more you will simmer it the more concentrated your mixture will become. Put off the heat and let it cool. Strain the liquid and your homemade shampoo is ready to use. Wet your hair before applying this formulation on your hair. Gently massage it in your scalp and hair. Leave it for 5 minutes and rinse it with lukewarm water. These ingredients have pH balancing and conditioning properties so you don’t need any conditioner. It will nourish your scalp and make your hair soft, shiny and bouncy.

Baking soda

It is also good for washing your hair but you must take a gap of at least 4days if you are using baking soda. If you want to try this ingredient then you have to mix 1 tablespoon baking soda into half liter of hot water. Stir it until baking soda is completely dissolved in water and let it cool. Wet your hair and apply this mixture on your hair while massaging gently with your fingers. You can also use a bottle spray for even and easy dispensing. Leave it for 5 minutes and rinse it with lukewarm water. Frequent hair washing with baking soda can harm your hair therefore try this recipe occasionally.
