May 17, which is widely celebrated as the world hypertension day is gaining awareness with each passing day. Tension and stress have become extremely common these days. These two days words are heard every day and they have become a part of our daily lifestyle.
WHO calls tension as “Silent Killer” and “Global Public health issue”. The theme of this year’s world hypertension day is to “Know your numbers”. Hypertension increases your blood pressure to alarming levels. Hypertension is defined by WHO as “most important preventable cause of heart disease and stroke worldwide.”
As per the recommendation of Who, following are the four concrete steps which will help you immensely if you are dealing with stress or tension –
1. Healthy Diet –
A wholesome diet is very important for proper mental growth. Try to consume a diet which is rich in protein. Eat at least five servings of seasonal fruits and also reduce your salt intake to less than 5 grams per day.
2. Alcohol –
Reduce your alcohol drinks as much as possible. As per WHO, you should consume only 1 alcohol drink per day.
3. Physical activity –
It is very important to keep yourself active. Try to exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes every day. Also, even if you are 5 Kg overweight, then try to reduce it as even this much amount of weight gain will have a disastrous effect on your body.
4. No Tobacco –
Tobacco products should be stopped immediately. Tobacco consumption not only increases blood pressure but also reduces oxygen supply to your body.
