Common Reasons People Choose to Undergo Rhinoplasty

Nose job surgery is a transformative procedure that can change the look of the face through minor adjustments. Some people are born with a prominent nose while others may have suffered from disease or injury that changed the look of the feature. Rhinoplasty can correct the nose’s main function, providing easier breathing through the nostrils while also improving facial aesthetics, writes Dr. Goretti Ho Taghva, an expert in rhinoplasty in Newport Beach.

Below, you’ll find some of the deciding factors for patients opting for this type of operation:

The “Family” Nose

While many people are proud of their inherited traits, a large nose can detract from some of the other familiar features on a person’s face. A large nose can cause surrounding features like the eyes and lips to appear smaller or unproportionate. Certain ethnic noses might have characteristics that people seek to refine. A low nasal bridge, wide nostrils, and a nasal hump are all common in non-Caucasian noses. The plastic surgeon can retain the ethnic features of the face and improve the nose during the procedure. Additionally, some hereditary noses are more susceptible to a deviated septum, which is a medical condition that can be alleviated through surgery.

Repairing a Deviated Septum with Additional Fixes

The wall of cartilage that separates the nasal passages is known as the septum, and when it has deviated, or curves to one side, patients have difficulty breathing through their nose. The obstruction can also contribute to nasal congestion and even sinus infections because the drainage of the nose is impacted. A deviated septum occurs naturally in some noses and is common following injuries to the face. With impact, a deviated septum may create additional changes to the look of the nose, and when getting the septum cartilage repaired, patients may also opt to undergo cosmetic enhancements to improve its look. AAFPRS confirms that insurance companies will typically cover the medically necessary portion of the procedure and usually the patient is responsible for cosmetic alterations.

Restoring Aesthetics After an Injury

Following trauma, a patient may seek rhinoplasty surgery to correct injuries to the nose. Car accidents, domestic violence, and sports injuries commonly cause a broken nose that may heal crookedly. The bridge of the nose can become collapsed or permanently swollen due to tissue damage. The plastic surgeon may need to perform a reconstructive rhinoplasty, adding natural or synthetic implant material to the nose to create the desired shape and support.

Balancing a Weak Chin

Though a chin implant might be an option, rhinoplasty alone may be able to offset a smaller chin from a profile view. A distinct, protruding nose can cause the chin to appear receded, and refining the tip of the nose provides balance among the side view contouring. Some patients opt to undergo both a cosmetic nose surgery and chin augmentation together for their favored look.

Revision Rhinoplasty

The nasal anatomy is much smaller than that of the body, and an inexperienced surgeon may not have the skills to modify it naturally. In many cases, a conservative rhinoplasty is favored over excessive tissue removal, and the changes should be unique to each patient. The objective is to create a feature of the mid-face that creates facial harmony, complementing the eyes, lips, cheeks, and chin. Men and women also tend to have different size noses to fit their faces, and this too is taken into account during a primary or secondary rhinoplasty

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty to Camouflage Minor Imperfections

Some patients wish to improve the look of the nose but may choose not to undergo nose surgery. Through dermal filler injections, the plastic surgeon can fill in the dip around a nasal hump, add volume to one side to create symmetry, and raise the height of the nasal bridge. Some patients have nasal tips with thin skin that may show the shape of the cartilage below, and this too can be concealed through the skin-plumping serum, which adds cushioning material between the skin and the underlying tissue. While a surgical rhinoplasty creates permanent changes to the face, a non-surgical nose job offers temporary alteration. In cases of major reconstruction, the doctor may opt to perform rhinoplasty and use a long-term filler to provide the best results.

Facial Rejuvenation and Anti-Aging Treatments

Over time, gravity can cause nasal tip drooping, changing the look of the face. A downturned nose can make the mid-face appear to droop minimizes lip size. While it is a common misconception that the nose will continue to grow over time, gravity’s effect on the nasal tip might perpetuate the myth. According to NBC News, the natural Earth force coupled with diminishing skin elasticity is the source of the changes that are unwelcome by some. Rhinoplasty surgery can restore youth by changing the projection of the nose. For a full facial rejuvenation, patients can undergo additional procedures like a facelift or eyelid surgery to complement the rhinoplasty. f
