5 Foods For Hair Growth

Hair care is a billion-dollar industry that just keeps growing.  Every day, it seems like a new hair care vitamin or supplement is being promoted on social media, and everyone from Instagram models in San Diego to the Kardashians claims to swear by perfectly packaged (and perfectly marketed) hair care gummies.

What many people don’t know, however, is that there are tons of foods that are known to preserve the health of your hair, as well as increase the rate at which it grows.  If you’re apprehensive about taking unnatural hair care supplements, here are 5 foods that can increase your hair growth and maintain the general health of your hair as well.

Spinach

Spinach is a vegetable that everyone should be including into their daily diets.  This leafy green vegetable is full of nutrients, like Vitamins A and C, as well as iron and folate.  Vitamin A works to help the skin produce sebum, which helps keep the scalp moisturized and healthy.

Vitamin C helps build collagen and keep hair strong, both of which are essential in hair growth.  Aside from aiding in hair health, adding spinach to your diet can do wonders for your skin as well, as it gives you an extra dose of antioxidants that will keep your skin healthy and glowing.

Avocado

Avocado is another food that literally does wonders for your hair.  Avocados are considered healthy fats, along with nuts, olive oil, and fatty fish.  Thanks to the popularity of avocado toast, these fruits are seemingly everywhere lately, making it super convenient to start including them in your diet more.

Avocados are rich in Vitamins B and E, which help strengthen hair.  Eating avocados can also help your hair look and feel silkier, which is especially great for people with dry, frizzy hair.  Avocados can also be applied to the hair as a mask, and after washing it out, you should notice that your hair feels significantly softer!

Eggs

Protein is one of the biggest factors when it comes to hair growth, so eating foods packed with protein, like eggs, can really make a difference in the condition of your hair.  Like avocado, eggs can also be used as an all-natural hair mask!  To do this, simply whip up one or two eggs (depending on the thickness of your hair), work the mixture into your hair, leave on for 15 minutes, and rinse thoroughly.  An egg mask is great for people with dry or brittle hair, as it can help restore the luster in your hair while also providing strength.

Whole Grains

Whole grains, like brown rice and oats, contain biotin, which is essential in hair growth.  While some people opt to take biotin supplements, going straight to the source and adding healthy whole grains to your diet can help you achieve the same results.

Whole grains are easy to include in your everyday diet, as they are versatile and can be incorporated into any meal.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are another versatile vegetable that can also be prepared in a number of ways.  Sweet potatoes are full of beta-carotene, which the body turns into Vitamin A, that moisturizes the scalp.  Your hair will grow faster when it’s well-moisturized, so adding sweet potatoes to your diet can be your saving grace if you have dry, brittle hair.  Sweet potatoes can be prepared in tons of different ways depending on how you like them, but will still deliver a healthy dose of nutrients regardless of how you prepare them.
