He is a board certified ophthalmologist specialized in cornea treatment. He has an extensive experience in intra lasik surgery and he has already performed 135,000 Lasik procedures and 97,000 intra lasik procedures.

He was the first cornea specialist in Dallas to perform use an FDA-approved Excimer laser for refractive surgery. He was also among the first three doctors in Dallas and one of the first in country to use a microkeratome (an instrument used for flap creation during traditional Lasik) during ALK and Lasik surgery. In addition to traditional Lasik, he is also specialized in intralasik and premium intraocular lenses including AcrySof ReSTOR, Crystalens and Verisyse.

Academic History

Dr. Boothe has undergraduated from Rice University and completed his further studies at Texas Tech University School of Ophthalmology. He has attended Stein Eye Institute (University of California Los Angeles Medical School) as a fellow and specialized in refractive surgery at the institution.

Before specializing in ophthalmology, he worked as an emergency room physician. He found Ophthalmology an interesting speciality since it is a fast paced field which is continually evolving and hence switched to this field.

From 1983 to 1986, he was a resident of Department of Ophthalmology of the Texas Tech University Health Science Center. After that, he became a fellow of Cornea External Disease Division of the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California at Los Angeles Medical Center. This fellowship has trained him to start his own practice and he has opened his own clinic Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center at Plano in 1987.

Professional history

Dr. Boothe was determined to give his patients high quality eye care by providing best available techniques. He has started performing traditional Lasik eye surgery in early 1990s which made him the first cornea surgeon to use a laser approved by FDA for vision correction.

He wanted the best for his patients and it is proved by his statement “I insist upon being able to offer my patients the latest advances in the field of laser technology,” Dr. Boothe further says. “I research every new device and protocol continually, to ensure I can meet the goal of achieving 20/20 or better vision for every patient.”

Whenever he adopted a new technology, he has set high standards for safety, accuracy and precision. When he become assured that the new procedure can stand the strict standards and produce excellent results for patients then only he use the procedure during surgery.

This busiest Lasik surgeon has retired on 1st May 2015 and closed his practice. He has handed over his medical records to Laser Care Eye Center and it has become official custodian of medical records for Boothe Eye Care and Laser Center from the retirement day of Dr. Boothe.

He is a true Texas legend in eyes of many people and the field of Lasik surgery will always look see him as a pioneer for his knowledge and use of latest technology to provide the best treatment for his patients.
