Among different hair problems, dandruff is one of the most common hair and scalp issues experienced by both men and women and from every age group. The shedding of dead scalp skin is referred as dandruff and it occurs due to extremely dry, oily or microbe-infected scalp that further lead to redness itchiness, flaking and irritation into the scalp. A dry and dehydrated scalp in order to restore the balanced moisturizer produces more sebum, which in turn blocks the hair follicles. These hair follicles further draw microbes and results to bacterial and fungal infection. The infection on the scalp causes Seborrhoeic Dermatitis, psoriasis and dandruff.

These treatments include the use of anti-dandruff shampoos, spas, oiling, ketaconazole medications, dietary changes etc. Regular massaging and oiling of the scalp aids in improving blood circulation and provides the required oils and nutrients to hydrate and nurture the skin. This facilitates in treating and avoiding dandruff to create healthy, strong and beautiful tresses. The oil that is best known to be perfect, cost-effective, competent, and natural solution to treat the issue of dandruff is coconut oil.
Coconut is one of the best natural oil that is considered as the solution for not only dandruff problem but also many other hair related issues. One of the best and natural ways to reduce dandruff and over all dryness of the scalp is to apply natural oils. The main cause of dandruff is the dryness of the scalp and one can hydrate the scalp with oiling t with natural oils. Let us here consider the natural oil methods to fight dandruff and also to relieve the irritated scalp.
Coconut Oil for Dandruff
Coconut oil works wonders as a deep moisturizer taking care of dry scalp, and treats dandruff successfully. This natural oil has anti-fungal properties treating fungus that causes dandruff. With its molecular structure, it recondition the dry hair well penetrating into the hair shaft passing through the cuticle, renovating and stopping damage from inside out. Coconut oil has lauric acid, capric acid and vitamin E that facilitates restoration of hair, aid healthy growth of hair by keeping its protein intact and thus brings shine to your hair. It is an edible oil with antibiotic and nutritional properties offering thickness and combustibility to the hair preventing dryness of the scalp and dandruff when applied regularly.
Method – 1: Coconut Oil
Wash your hair but avoid conditioning it. After shampooing let your hair dry and then apply coconut oil on only your scalp. Make sure not to apply the oil into the rest of your hair. Wash your hair twice a day in order to completely remove oil from the hair. You can repeat this practice once weekly unless you get relieved from dandruff completely.
Method – 2: Hot Coconut Oil Massage

Method – 3: Coconut Oil with Lime Juice
Mix well a tablespoon of lemon juice into 5 tablespoon of coconut oil and then apply this mixture on your scalp. Massage your scalp and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes. Then wash your hair with shampoo and thus reduce the occurrence of dandruff. Covering your head with a warm towel after the massage will further nourishes your hair and helps in its healthy growth. You can also consume coconut oil or coconut oil supplements (capsules) every day, which helps in treating dandruff, and dryness of the skin.
Regular repeating of the same process will helps to prevent the dandruff.
Method – 4: Coconut Oil with Fenugreek
Coconut oil with fenugreek aids healthy and strong hair. Take a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds and grind it. Fenugreek seeds have anti-fungus property that helps in removing the fungus growing inside and outside the scalp. For this you need to heat 5 tablespoons of coconut oil and then mix the grinded fenugreek powder into the warm oil. Apply this mixture on your hair and let it sit for about 2 hours. Then wash it off using a mild shampoo. To get rid of dandruff, you should repeat this process at least once in a week.
Method – 5: Coconut Oil for Overnight
Take 3 to 5 tablespoons of coconut oil and massage your scalp all over for few minutes. Keep it overnight and wash it the next day with shampoo. However, make sure not to use any conditioner since hair oil mask works as a fantastic pre-conditioner. Do this method every day continuously for 5 – 7 days to get dandruff free hair.
Method – 6: Coconut Oil with Rosemary Oil
Mix a few drops of coconut oil into a small amount of rosemary oil. Mixing both the oil well apply this on to your scalp and leave it for a few minutes. And then wash it off. You can repeat this process every alternative day in order to get complete relief from dandruff.
Method – 7: Coconut Oil with Other Essential Oils
Mix a teaspoon of tea tree oil, 4 drops of cedar wood essential oil and 2 drops of ylang ylang in to a cup of coconut oil. Mix these ingredients well and apply it on your scalp. Leave it for at least an hour facilitating the mixture to penetrate well in to the hair. Doing this once a week will surely help you to prevent dandruff and also makes hair strong and soft and shiny.
Method – 8: Coconut Oil with Camphor
In a half cup of coconut oil mix a teaspoon of camphor and keep it in an airtight container. Apply this mixture into your scalp and massage your head for 10 minutes. Repeat this ach night before going to bed and continue this for 2 weeks and you could see the difference on your hair with reduced dandruff.
